Super Sophia

Yesterday Sophia decided it was time to play with the cape that Grandma Darla made for her birthday. She ran around the house, chasing Paul and running by herself when he got tired, calling herself "Supper Sophia!" Lest we think that pop culture has taken her over (it's trying, and working, but hasn't completed its work yet) Paul called her that first and she thought it was highly entertaining.

Last night as her desert after dinner she got a fortune cookie left from my birthday dinner last week. It said something like "It is time for peace in your life. You need to learn to take direction from others." It was a nearly perfect fortune for her. Like her mother, Sophia is very independent and wants to do things by herself.

We've had a few other entertaining incidents with Miss Independent. A few nights ago during dinner she was applying herself to her food and Paul and I started talking about our wonderful niece Lindsey. I looked over and noticed that Sophia had slid down in her chair until her head was about level with the table and was looking very cross. I asked her what was wrong and she refused to answer me, giving the world a dirty look. After asking a few more times and thinking furiously, I asked her if she was mad because we'd been talking about Lindsey. She enthusiastically agreed that was the problem and with our attention more properly invested in her perked right up.

Last night we were playing and I asked if she wanted help with something. This greatly offended her and she got down on her knees and crawled to sit with her back against the front door, crossed her eyes and pouted. After telling her she wasn't in trouble, or in time out and could come any time she wanted, we decided to ignore her and started talking. A few minutes later she ran into the room, threw a stuffed horse at me, and ran back to her pouting station. Pouting just isn't any fun unless she's being watched. There aren't too many dull moments around here!
