Pictures

A few weeks ago I took Sophia to have new pictures taken. Last winter, the photo session did not go very well and we got only 2 good pictures of Sophia. This time, the photographer suggested that they take some pictures of the two of us first and then of just Sophia. It really helped and we got wonderful pictures of just her, and even a few good ones of the two of us.

Today Sophia came home from day care wearing a chef's hat she made today. (I suspect that Karen did a lot of the work.) She's very proud of it as you can tell in this photo.

Tulip Festival

This last weekend was so typical of Oregon in the spring-time. Saturday the temperature was in the mid-70's and it was bright and sunny. Sunday, we had clouds, and yesterday the temperature was in the 40's and today it's raining. It's not an unique saying, but we do say that if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, or a day.

It was so clear on Sunday we could see the mountains from the farm. In the photo above and to the right, if you look closely, just over Sophia's shoulder you can see Mt. Hood.

Saturday was so beautiful we took Sophia to the Tulip Festival which is essentially the spring version of the pumpkin farm; farmers realizing they can get silly city-folk to come pay them ridiculous amounts of money just to walk around their crop and take pictures with their kids. That cynical statement aside, it was really beautiful and Sophia loved all the colors and flowers.

There were, of course, the obligatory other entertainments including swings made out of 'rustic' materials, train rides (which cost extra) and the largest johnny-jump-up I've ever seen.

Entertainment, of course, also included all the other people. My favorite were the two woman who had with them on a leash, their goat. Yes, I said goat. They lead the goat around the fields just like a dog, and even posed him for pictures next to the flowers. It's just amazing what people will do.

Spring

Aunt Amy recently posted pictures of her visit to Washington D.C.'s Cherry Blossom Festival. Well, we refused to be outdone or left behind! Sunday, we made a trip to our own, smaller, cherry blossom festival on Oregon's capitol mall. While Amy's pictures may win in the cute dog department, our pictures feature an adorable two-year old.

We had a good time and Sophia found the fountains especially intriguing. What she enjoyed most was playing hide-and-seek. She's got a lot to learn about effective hiding, but then it's probably good she can't hide very well yet. This way we can always find her.

We had Sophia's tunnel out on Sunday. Abby the cat found it and thought it made a wonderful hiding-place. She too has a lot to learn about hiding.
